INTRODUCTION  :

Small, private & exclusive in the Masai Mara

At Richard’s Camp guests have the opportunity to experience the real Africa; days of heart-stopping game viewing, evenings enjoying cocktails by a cozy campfire and delicious three-course meals under an awe inspiring canopy of stars.

ABOUT RICHARD'S CAMP :

Richard’s Camp is owned and operated by Richard Roberts and his girlfriend, designer, Liz Fusco who moved to Kenya in 1993. Richard was raised in the Masai Mara from the age of 3. Richard’s parents, Willy and Sue were instrumental in bringing together the Masai communities and forming the wildlife conservation association that exists in this area today. Richard’s abundant and intimate knowledge of this area and the people, together with Liz and a warm and welcoming staff, ensure guests a very special stay.

ACCOMMODATION :

A traditional tented camp in true African safari style with a few modern surprises, each individually decorated tent has either twin or double beds with triple rooms available for families upon request. Our solar system provides clean, silent power and ensures 24-hour light to all the tents. All of our 6 large and spacious custom designed tents feature an en suite flush loo and heated shower. Rarely has sleeping under canvas been made so comfortable.

As the weather almost always permits, we eat all our meals outside under Kenyan skies, but for those rare rainy or chilly evenings, we dine inside, adjacent to our beautiful and cozy sitting room with it’s roaring fire. Enjoy flopping on the sofa to read or just relax. At the end of the day, guests can indulge in an open-air Victorian bath tucked away in the forest, surrounded by flickering candles and the sounds of the bush.

ACTIVITIES :

Your day is designed to be as exciting or relaxing as you wish. There is a variety of activities from which to choose - escorted bush walks, day and night game drives, sundowners, full days out with delicious picnic lunches into the very heart of the Mara and cultural visits to Masai villages - all tailor made to ensure a rewarding safari of a lifetime. Balloon safaris and day trips to Lake Victoria can also be arranged at an extra cost.

FLY CAMP :

A rare opportunity to spend a night with basic comforts and in very close quarters with nature, fly camping takes those who choose on a light-weight camping adventure into a beautifully wild area in order to experience a little bit more of Africa.

CONSERVATION :

Our area of the Masai Mara is owned and managed by the Masai people themselves under the name of The Ol Choro Oirouwa Wildlife Management and Conservation Association. A portion of every ‘client per night’ fee is put back into the community and local projects. Richard and his family continue to be very active in on-going Mara conservation projects as well as spear heading initiatives in other parts of Kenya. Liz is currently developing a local Masai women’s beading co-operative, enabling these women to gain income while working from their homes.

HISTORY :

Originally built as the Roberts’ family home whilst carrying out conservation work in the Masai Mara, Richard’s Camp is a small and exclusive tented camp where the pioneer traditions of hospitality and comfort continue. Located on the edge of a small forest, elephant and plains game are regular visitors to the camp's perimeter and bird-life abounds.

MASAI MARA :

The Masai Mara is located in South Western Kenya. Together with Tanzania’s Serengeti it forms one of the worlds most diverse and spectacular eco-systems.

Richard’s Camp is situated in a conservation area North West of The Masai Mara Game Reserve. With riverine forest and short grass plains, this area is renown for the most exceptional big game viewing worldwide.

The camp is located approximately 180 kms West of Nairobi (about a 41⁄2 hour drive). We have a small airfield adjacent to the camp for private charters, or within 20 minutes drive, the large airstrip is located for scheduled air services.
