ABOUT LAKE BARINGO CLUB :
On the shores of Lake Baringo, 75kms north of the equator, the Club nestles amongst palm trees, green lawns and the clashing pinks, purples, reds and oranges of bougainvillea obviously thriving in the hot steamy days that characterise so many of the Rift's lakes. The chocolate lake laps gently at 26 acres of gardens whilst crocodiles bask and hippos snort their stories just 50 yards offshore. But above all Baringo is birds, birds and more birds. Over 460 species have been recorded here so it is no surprise that Baringo is the Mecca for bird watchers and the highlight of the ornithology circuit of East Africa.

Lake Baringo opened its doors in 1968.

ACTIVITIES AND EXCURSIONS :
A resident ornithologist leads bird walks before breakfast and in the evening. Whatever you do at Baringo don't miss the bird boat trip. From your motorised dugout, complete with sunshade, you have a marvellous view of the Laikipia escarpment and the Tugen hills.

There are two hot springs in the area. A visit to the hot springs on a close by island takes two hours with plenty of bird, crocodile and hippo watching en route. There's a Lounge, bar, swimming pool and an air conditioned conference room.

If you are looking for something to do other than sunning yourself by the pool you could try a bird walk, boat trip, fishing, horse riding, camel riding or visit a Njemps village and Bogoria hot springs.

While on the lake you might meet a solo Njemps fisherman balanced on his precarious looking one-man raft made of Ambatch, similar to balsa wood. Your boatman might borrow a fish and then whistle up a fish eagle from the top of a distant tree. The takeoff, the approach, the turn, the swoop and the grab that follows will be a memory for life.
