ABOUT TREETOPS :
The most famous game viewing lodge in the world overlooks a waterhole and saltlick high in the Aberdare National Park. Treetops is the original tree lodge, built in 1932 and legendary for its historical royal connection, for the animals it attracts and for the sheer joy of exploring a tree house visited by rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, bushbuck and many other species. You leave the Outspan Golf and Country Club after lunch for the ten mile drive to Treetops and are met by a ranger who spells out the common sense rules of behavior before he walks you to the lodge for your overnight stay. The excitement of Treetops stems from the fact that the animals don't realise you exsist and they approach you fearlessly. Not only is it the closest you can get to an animal in the wild, but it makes a welcome change to have the animals come to you instead of the other way round.
ACTIVITIES AND EXCURSIONS :
There is a spectacular view of Mount Kenya on a clear morning as you leave Treetops for the return journey to the Outspan and an impressive breakfast.

The lodge rises straight out of the ground on stilts. It has four decks and a rooftop viewing platform. Solely dedicated to game viewing, the accommodation is compact and cosy.

The 50 twin bedded rooms are small and neat and cosy like cabins on board ship. Dinner is imaginatively served at refrectory tables with bench seating, which heightens the sense of adventure and stimulates conversation.

Several observation areas and game viewing platforms on each floor. Open balconies are ideal vantage points for viewing and photography and two photographic hides at ground level at either end of the lodge allow really close shots of unsuspecting animals.

Once you've retired an optional buzzer will alert you if something special shows up during the night. The die-hard, however, will wrap himself up in a blanket and keep vigil over the water hole. A night at Treetops is a night to remember.
