Transportation :

Mount Kenya Safari Club, Aberdare Country Club and The Ark, Sweetwaters Tented Camp and Ol Pejeta Ranch House and Mara Safari Club each have 4 x 4 vehicles on site.

Air transportation to our properties can be arranged. The schedules and prices can be viewed below under the Air Kenya Aviation paragraph.

Choices Wild Limited arranges for road transportation to Lonrho Hotels and Lodges. 

MOUNT KENYA SAFARI CLUB:       The Club has one 7-seater Landcruiser and a 28-seater minibus. These are used for internal and external transfers (to and from the airstrip). Within the Club grounds As the Club grounds are so extensive we provide transportation at any time of the day or night from cottages, villas or riverside rooms to the public rooms. Guests are asked to ring reception and allow 15 minutes for a vehicle to reach them.

By Road: Mount Kenya Safari Club is north of Nairobi on 200 kms of good paved road from Nairobi to Nanyuki, 70 kms of good paved road from The Aberdare Country Club to Nanyuki. Nanyuki airstrip is 20 kms from the Club and Samburu National Reserve is only 140 kms of both good paved and all-weather unpaved road.

The journey from Nairobi to the Club entails a scenic 3 hour drive, or a 50 minute flight with a 15 minutes transfer from Nanyuki airstrip to the Club. Kirinyaga Airstrip is a 3-minute drive from the Club and ideal for private charters.

By Air: Kirinyaga Airstrip, the Club's private airstrip, is located 2 kms from the Club on the lower slopes of Mt Kenya, is ideal for private charters and has a capacity for small twins and single engines. Nanyuki, an all-weather airstrip, can accommodate light aircraft such as DC3-25s (seat 25 pax), Twin Otters (seat 18, 16 and 11), Navajos (seat 8), and Barons (seat 5). ABERDARE COUNTRY CLUB / THE ARK:        The Aberdare Country Club, in conjunction with The Ark, owns 6 7-seater landcruisers, 3 * 28-seater buses and 1 *  40-seater bus. These are used for transfers. The landcruisers are also used for game drives. Private cars can be driven close to rooms. A shuttle service can be provided for disabled persons between the rooms and the main building, and for all guests when it rains. Driving is not permitted in the game sanctuary.

By Road: The Aberdare Country Club is 180 kms north of Nairobi, and the journey entails a scenic two and a half hour drive through various rural villages and towns, the last 11 kms covering an unpaved but all-weather road, from Nyeri town. The Mweiga airfield is 2 km from the Club; Nyeri airstrip 15 kms away; and Nanyuki airstrip is 40 kms away.

By Air: Mweiga, Nyeri and Nanyuki are the closest airstrips to the Aberdare Country Club. Nyeri and Nanyuki Airstrips can accommodate light aircraft ranging from 25 to 5-seaters. Mweiga, however, cannot accommodate the DC3-25 (25-seater). Air Kenya Aviation offers regular flights as indicated below. Private air charters can be arranged directly with Air Kenya, to land either at Mweiga or Nyeri.

MARA SAFARI CLUB:       The Mara Safari Club has 20 landcruisers, each of which can seat 6 people in window seats - six beneath the opening hatches. besides the driver-guide. These are used for transfers to and from the airstrip, as well as for game drives

By Road:

The Narok County Council has completed a new section of road which cuts about 3 hours off the trip to Mara Safari Club by road. Continue straight on out of Narok until you reach Mulot. Here follow the signs left to the Club.

The trip takes about 3.5 hours in the dry weather, longer in the rainy season.

 

By Air:  Air Kenya Aviation offers daily flights to and from the Mara. Aeroplanes range from 25- to 5-seaters. Airport tax is payable when buying your tickets.  Besides Air Kenya, Aircraft Leasing Services and Eagle Aviation also provide daily scheduled flights to the Mara.

SWEETWATERS TENTED CAMP / OL PEJETA RANCH HOUSE:        Sweetwaters Tented Camp has 4 Toyota Landcruisers. Each vehicle can accommodate 7 passengers, and has 5 window seats. These vehicles are used for all transfers and for both day and night game drives. For night game drives this vehicle seats 6 passengers (4 window seats). Ol Pejeta Ranch House has one 4x4 vehicle which can be used for transfers. This vehicle is normally used by the Host at the House, and for clients on the "all-inclusive" option when staying at the House.

By Road: Sweetwaters Tented Camp is 17 kms on an unpaved road from Nanyuki, 200 km from Nairobi on a good paved road. It is 72 km from The Aberdare Country Club, and 26 km from Mount Kenya Safari Club. The journey from Nairobi to Sweetwaters Tented Camp entails a scenic 3-hour drive through coffee and tea growing areas, pineapple plantations, and rural towns.

By Air: The trip takes 50 minutes, with a 45 minute transfer (27 kms) from the Nanyuki airstrip to the Camp. Nanyuki all-weather airstrip accommodates light aircraft such as DC3-25s (seat 25 pax), Twin Otters (seat 18, 16 and 11), Navajos (seat 8), and Barons (seat 5). AIR KENYA AVIATION FLIGHT SCHEDULES:      Air Kenya Aviation's flight schedules can be viewed on their website at www.airkenya.com . Please note baggage allowance is 15 kgs, including hand luggage. Airport tax is payable at the time of purchasing the ticket.
