MARA SERENA SAFARI LODGE : |
An
interpretation of a traditional Masai Manyatta village of domed
huts, Mara Serena Safari Lodge is set on the saddle of a hill
where it overlooks the 1,800 square kilometers of rolling
plains, woodlands and rivers that make up the Masai Mara
Triangle - one of the world's richest wildlife sanctuaries. No
other lodge has such a spectacular view of the surrounding
landscape or the game and birdlife that inhabit it. It is on
this very terrain stretching endlessly before the lodge where
the annual migrations take place, where millions of wildebeest,
zebra and gazelle traverse the landscape to feed on the rich new
grass and give birth to their young.

| GAME
VIEWING : |
| The
1,700 square kilometer Maasai Mara Game Reserve is one of the
world's richest wildlife sanctuaries and shares the same
ecosystem as its neighbor - the Serengeti National Park.
Virtually every common species of East African wildlife may be
seen here including elephants, the legendary black-maned
lions, leopard, cheetah, giraffes, wildebeests, buffalo, wart
hogs, zebras, gazelles, topi, hyena, ostrich, hippos, baboons
and many others. There are more than two million animals in
the Mara during the annual wildebeest migration which streams
past the lodge. An extraordinary variety of birdlife is also
known to the immediate area.
No trip to Mara
Serena would be complete without a visit to the hippo pools
where large numbers of these enormous creatures wallow in the
cooling mud of the Mara River.
The Lodge is the only
property of its kind in the Mara Triangle - and, as such, its
guests can be assured a high degree of privacy when enjoying
their safari experience.
The Lodge has three
landcruisers which can seat 7 persons each. Game drives into
the bush are scheduled daily.
Game
Drive Schedules:
Early morning from
6:30 am to 8:30 am
Morning from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Afternoon from 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Full day game drives
can also be arranged. Leave the lodge at 8:00 am, with a
picnic box lunch. Go explore the Mara plains for birds and
wildlife returning to the lodge at 4:00 pm. |

| UNIQUE
ACTIVITIES
: |
A
specially arranged balloon safari will lift you into the clear
blue sky at dawn and give you an eagle's view of the wildlife
pageant below. You will climb until the Mara is a magical
tapestry of landscape and the horizons of Africa are wider
than the eye can see. The enchantment does not end with a
"bump". As you land, Serena's hospitality matches
the mood, with a sumptuous champagne breakfast - right there
in the wild. The journey home is another game drive, to
complete what is undoubtedly the experience of a lifetime.
This is only the
beginning of the special offerings that guests are invited to
experience at Mara Serena Safari Lodge:
- With tables set on
the riverbank, experience the unique wildlife of the Mara
River by beginning your day with a "hippo
breakfast". Guests can also arrange afternoon tea at
sunset in this same unique location.
- A Maasai bush
dinner - with dancing performed by Maasai warriors in
their traditional regalia - is served under the stars on
the banks of the Mara River.
- Guests are invited
to enjoy special poolside barbecues with entertainment
following the meal. Evening barbecues in a secluded part
of the lodge grounds can also be arranged.
- There are Maasai
dances every other day from 7:15 to 7:45 pm
- Slide shows of
Maasai Mara, and the animals found within the reserve, are
presented by the resident environmentalist every other
evening
- Wildlife films are
shown in the bar lounge every evening after dinner

| ABOUT
MAASAI MARA GAME RESERVE : |
| Maasai
Mara National Reserve (373,000 acres/ 151,000 hectacres) is
the northern extension of Tanzania's famous Serengeti Plains
and is usually called "the Mara". Reachable by road
or air from Nairobi, the Mara is Kenya's premier place for
seeing wildlife. It features many excellent game lodges and
camps, and a wide network of dirt roads slice through its open
rolling grassland and wooded savanna. Two sizable rivers, the
Mara and Talek, wind through the landscape, flanked by gallery
forests and seasonal marshes.
The reserve is most
extraordinary between July and October, when well over 1
million migrant herbivores (especially wildebeests and zebras)
settle in for dry-season grazing. Besides migrants, the Mara
hosts resident populations of elephants, hippos, topis,
hartebeests, buffalos, giraffes, Thomson's and Grant's
gazelles, impalas, Kirk's dik-diks, and a few black rhinos.
Predators are plentiful, notably cheetahs, leopards, and
unusually large prides of lions.
Birding is excellent
around the lodges and from vehicles; 450 species have been
recorded, including 54 raptors. The gallery forests host
primates and a number of birds usually found farther west. The
pastoral Masai (Maasai) people lead a semi-nomadic life just
outside the reserve.
