“The Turtle Bay Way, Just One Wedding a Day!”
Congratulations on your
engagement and thank you for thinking of Turtle Bay as the place
to hold your wedding.
We aim to make your wedding day a special one, and we work
closely with you to ensure that all goes exactly as you would
wish. However, while we ask for your opinions and wishes, we
also aim to make sure we do the work, not you! A few brief
meetings with our Wedding coordinator are all that is necessary,
and then you can sit back, relax and enjoy your holiday while
all the organizing is done for you.
The documentation required for the wedding in Kenya is as
follows. In order to ensure that the paperwork is completed and
we have time to confirm any queries, please make sure that we
have photocopies of these documents at least 6 weeks ahead
of the wedding day.
· Passport for the bride and groom
· Birth certificates for the bride and groom
· Address (Es) and occupations of both bride and groom
· If one of the parties is a divorcee, the divorce certificate
including the Decree Absolute is required
· In the case of a widow / widower, the death certificate is
required
· If under the age of 21years, then evidence of consent by
parents is required in the form of an affidavit stamped
by the notary Public
· Full name and occupation of the bride’s and the groom’s
father
· Affidavits confirming marital status
There is a
required residency period of two full working days in Kenya
before application can be confirmed. Time must be allowed to
process the application, therefore please bear in mind that a
total of seven days should be planned, although not strictly
necessary, between the arrival date and the wedding date.
Please note that should there be a safari planned before your
arrival at the hotel, please allow a minimum of two full working
days before the wedding date. This will allow the coordinator
enough time to sort out the wedding arrangements and any special
requests you may have.
You should also bring the original documents with you in case
any information needs to be verified.
The ceremony is performed by a Government official from the
District Commissioner’s office, and is legal according to
British law. Ceremonies can be arranged Monday – Saturday and
are held in the afternoon. The date selected is dependent on the
official’s availability. As we only book one wedding per day,
your first choice of date may not be available. We recommend you
give us at least three optional dates to avoid disappointing
you.
Please note that marrying in a Commonwealth country means that
the only record of your wedding is the marriage certificate. If
this is misplaced, you will need to contact the hotel to arrange
for a copy from the District Commissioner’s office. The
procedure for obtaining copies is quite lengthy and may take as
long as a month.
Most of the ceremonies are held in the club’s grounds, and can
be arranged either in the gardens or on the beach. The beach
weddings are seasonal due to the high winds experienced during
the months of April to October. A wedding bower is built with
palm fronds and fresh flowers for each individual ceremony. The
two sites have been chosen with the photographer in order to
ensure that the light is at its best for the photos.
We are also able to arrange for a wedding ceremony on an Arabic
Dhow.
The Arabic Dhow is a pleasant surprise and makes for a
beautiful setting. Accompanied by a 45-minute cruise, these
weddings take place on Mida Creek, famous with Bird Watchers and
offer a spectacular sunset on the way back. The Arabic Dhow can
only hold a maximum of 8 people and the wedding party must
therefore be kept relatively small. Dhow weddings, like beach
weddings, are also seasonal due to the Spring tides of April to
October.
Your wedding can be as formal or informal, as you like. We have
a resident hairdresser who will be happy to arrange the
bride’s hair for a small fee. This can be arranged along with
other optional extras during the interview with the coordinator.
We have resident tailors at the hotel. If either of you
would prefer to have a Kenyan outfit that is generally cooler
than the traditional suits and dresses, we will be happy to
design and make your outfits for them. You can choose the fabric
and style that best suits you. The cost of these outfits varies,
but as an indication, a smart vest made out of the traditional,
brightly coloured cotton kikoi, is approximately UKŁ20.
The flowers used for both the bouquet and the buttonhole,
are a mixture of traditional roses, carnations and tropical
flowers. All the flowers come in a variety of colours, so we can
cater for most colour schemes, from deep rich reds, through pale
pink, to soft peaches, creams and whites. As the flowers are
transported from Nairobi, we cannot always guarantee a specific
type of flower.
You will need two witnesses at your wedding for legal
reasons. However, should you be traveling alone for a private
ceremony, the hotel can arrange for two staff members to be your
witnesses, or you can ask two new found friends whom you have
met while you are here. The witnesses must be 18 years or older.
The reception is held in the Club’s Blue Turtle Restaurant,
next to the beach, perfect for those informal photographs!
Sparkling wine and the wedding cake are served at this time,
although you can always save the cake to be re-served at your
dinner that evening.
Our wedding couples are automatically booked into the Blue
Turtle Restaurant for their wedding dinner and provided with
specially decorated tables and chairs. If for any reason the
Blue Turtle Restaurant is not available, you will be notified
ahead of time. We will also provide you with a personal
waiter to bring your choices from the Table
d’hôte menu. Should you also wish for a special
meal of prawns and lobsters, we can arrange for one, although
this is at an extra charge.
Breakfast in bed is provided to you
the morning after your wedding. All you have to do is simply let
our wedding coordinator know what you would like to be served.
There will be a photographer
present at both the ceremony and the reception, and he will take
least 48 photographs of which you can choose 24 prints only to
take home with you as part of the wedding package. Should you
wish to take more photographs with you, there is an extra charge
of UKŁ1.50 per print. Alternatively, you can choose to purchase
the negatives of all the photos at an extra charge of UKŁ50.
In addition to the photographer, it is also possible to have a
video made of your wedding. The cost of an edited video is UKŁ130,
but is subject to change without notice.
The total cost of the Turtle Bay Beach Club wedding package is
determined by your tour operator, in the UK, and is dependant
upon factors such as the current rate of exchange. A direct
wedding booking with Turtle Bay Beach Club is UKŁ600. For Dhow
weddings, there is an additional charge of UKŁ50 bringing the
total to UKŁ650. The package includes:
Two bottles of Sparkling wine
Wedding cake for 6 – 8 people
Services of a best man and bridesmaid if necessary
24 photos without negatives
Organizing the registrar or Priest
Arranging the ceremony
Church Choir
Reception and dinner

Registrar fees

Please let us know if we can do anything to help ensure that
your wedding day is a very special one that you will remember
and talk about in the days to come.
