Hyena,
any of three coarse-furred, dog-like carnivores, belongs
to the family Hyaenidae. Hyenas are noted for
their scavenging habits.
The
spotted, or laughing, hyena (Crocuta crocuta) is
the most robust and daring of the hyenas.
